Tonight I’m hosting New Year’s Eve with my friends. There will be 11 people here, including my wife and I, plus two dogs. Just one week ago we hosted Christmas dinner for 17 people.

We don’t have a small house. It’s around 2,000 square feet. But let me tell you, 17 people is a handful. The difference between 17 and 11 people is ginormous!

First, we only need two tables instead of three. Having that third table really took up a lot of room in my house.

Second, cooking for 11 instead of 17 means you are only using 1-2 pots/pans/trays/ladles/pitchers/etc. instead of 2-3. That means 1) not running out of dishes and 2) at least two less loads of dishes in the dishwasher.

There will be one less trip down to take out the trash in the middle of the party.

If someone is having an issue like not being able to a wine opener or something, there isn’t a swarm of people preventing myself or my wife from noticing so that person doesn’t have to dig through our drawers.

Lastly, Peyton will get less table food from guests and spills. Sorry, pup.

I’m excited for tonight. I’m exciting to watch the ball drop with my friends and turn the page from 2015 to 2016.
