My friend Oliver is a spectacular writer and copy editor. He once told me that there is no such thing as writer’s block. A writer just has to keep writing and eventually he or she will find their way.
I gotta say… he’s right. There are days with zero inspiration. There are days when you don’t want to write. There are days when you’d rather clean your entire house instead of sitting in front of the computer to put thoughts into words onto the screen. This isn’t writer’s block. This is you resisting the work.
I was late to the Steven Pressfield The War of Art bandwagon. TL;DR sit down and do the work each day if you are a professional at what you do. It’s taking everything in me not to open a new tab and google Steven Pressfield newsletter because I remember hearing in a podcast recently about how he has the best newsletter. This thing is front of mind and seems so much easier to do than sit here and bang out words into this Google Doc. I want to but not until my work is done.
Back to writer’s block. I do feel like I have nothing to write about on SOB1.0 (the site 95% dedicated to beer). But come on. We’re humans. The limitations of our imaginations are endless. I could find something to write about if I wanted to. Blaming writer’s block is an excuse. Don’t use it. You’re better than that. I’m better than that.
Okay. Think I can go find that Steven Pressfield newsletter now. Phew.
