There’s a few small moments each day that I look forward to with great excitement. One of those I only get for a few months out of the year. That moment is my final nightly walk with Peyton during the summer.
I don’t know when it happened but I have become an anti-winter person. Especially having a dog and not having a yard. I have to walk her usually three times a day. When I can no longer walk her in shorts, a white tee and sandals I get upset. There aren’t many daily tasks worse than bundling layer upon layer to stand outside only to have to pick up after your dog who doesn’t want to do her thing because her paws are frozen.
That’s why I look forward to moments like I’ll have tonight. When it’s 9:30PM and I’m in my shorts and the weather is perfect and Peyton and I could walk for hours around our little field. In the back of my head I know that I only have a couple more weeks of this. I only have a couple more weeks until I’ll have a light fleece on. Then the North Face jacket. Then I’ll finally switch to sweatpants. Side note: when you are 5’3” there are no sweatpants that are the correct length.
I’ll miss these nights and long for the thaw of spring so I have a few months of peaceful nighttime walks with Peyton.
Winter is coming, my friend. Winter is coming.
