Today was one of my favorite days of the year! It’s a day when I can live out boyhood (and manhood) dreams. Today was my fantasy baseball trading deadline.

Alright, alright. I’m being dramatic but it is the closest thing I will ever get to being a general manager for a Major League Baseball team. Today I take that dream and live it to the fullest.

This past week I’ve been wheeling and dealing like Billy Beane. Side note — if you’ve never seen or read Moneyball go do both.

With less than an hour before the deadline this morning I started throwing out deals as fast as I could. I’m in 100% rebuilding mode. It’s a deep keeper league that I’ve been in for fourteen years now so this isn’t my first time rebuilding. However I haven’t had to rebuild for a few years and I forgot how much fun it is. Riding near the bottom of the standings isn’t fun but trading away your high-priced players for cheaper ones for next year gives me hope.

With less than four minutes to spare I got a bite from another team who wanted two of the three remaining players I was trying to ditch — Markakis and Gallardo. In return I got Micah Johnson and a handful of other players. Micah Johnson might steal 50 bases next year. Markakis and Gallardo I would not be able to keep for next year soooo I think both teams won.

This is such a small thing to so many people, even fantasy baseball players. But as the minutes were ticking down and the pressure was building I was able to churn out a deal to help my club for next year. You might find it lame but I found it riveting and cannot wait to do it again next year hopefully as a team buying instead of selling.
