Exciting times! I love getting new websites. Back in 2009 I got my first website — shortedits.com (no longer exists). In 2013 I got shortonbeer.wordpress.com. In 2014 I got editvideofaster.com. Now, today in just a few minutes, I’m going to purchase the domain for shortonbeer.com.
I’m doing this for a couple reasons. First, I feel like dramatically transforming my personal site (shortonbeer.wordpress.com). But I don’t want to mess with the work I’ve already done to it. I get on average 50-80 views per day on the Cicerone Certified Beer Server Exam Study Guides I made. I enjoy them sitting on those pages and people accessing them there. I love the “Short On Beer” name but don’t want to be pigeonholed to just talking about beer. If I were to start getting off course on the .wordpress.com site I’d feel a little guilty I’ve strayed off topic that my readers come to expect.
That’s not to say I won’t write about beer here. Or that I’m going to stop writing altogether on .wordpress.com. At this point, I have no flipping clue what’s happening with either one of these sites. For now I’m taking it a day at a time; a post at a time.
I have a vision of what I want out of this site. That vision today might come to fruition or it might be completely different. Until then I’m cool taking it a day at a time.
That vision today (August 2nd, 2015) is to publish a short post each day. I’m writing these posts a few days ahead of time because I’ve figured out one of the biggest issues with me actually publishing is putting the darn content into WordPress, formatting it and hitting the publish button. My hypothesis is that if I write the posts ahead of time and once or twice a week type up and schedule all the forthcoming posts then the likelihood of them getting published increases greatly. If I don’t write and publish each day I’m telling myself I won’t get discouraged. I love streaks but the biggest issue with them is that if you get to a certain number, let’s say 38 days in a row, then you miss a day you’ll be discouraged to start back over at day 1 so you stop altogether. My goal is to write as frequently as I can about whatever the heck is running through my mind — kinda like a mini therapy session for myself each day you get to sit in on.
I like the idea of having the days of the week synced up to when I write it. So I’m writing this on a Sunday and it’ll get published on a Sunday. Besides what I’ve told you I haven’t done any more thinking about this site and it’s future. That’s on purpose too because I don’t want to go down a path and want to change my mind later but won’t change because I feel like I can’t. I’m just going with the flow.
I’d love some feedback though. I’m going to be messing around with everything over the coming weeks; things like design, website themes, publishing times, etc. I hope you stick around for this ride with me. If you can please tell a friend about it too.
